WHAT ARE THE DIFFERENCES BETWEEN HASH AND WEED?
If you have just started to delve into the world of cannabis, you may be wondering what the differences are between hash and weed. There are all sorts of cannabis-based products available, from cannabis seeds and edibles to hashish. It's good to know exactly what is what, so you can choose the right product for you. In this blog, you will read what hash and weed are, how they differ, but also how they are similar.
Weed and hash: what exactly are they?
If you want to use cannabis, you can do so in different ways. It's all about the buds. This is where the precious cannabinoids, terpenes and flavonoids are produced, which we love because of the effects they produce. Weed and hashish are both made from treated buds, but they do differ. If you want to get weed, you take the buds, they are dried and cured, and then they are ready for use. Hash is created by separating the trichomes from the cannabis buds, after which they are pressed together.
Therefore, one of the differences between hash and weed is that hash is more concentrated. The trichomes are the tiny glands in the buds that produce the cannabinoids (such as THC, CBD and CBG, among others). Hash generally contains a higher THC concentration than cannabis. So this is good to take into account if you were to use either product.
How is hashish made?
Hashish, as mentioned above, consists of compressed trichomes. However, there are different ways of making it. In India, hashish is called charas. It is made by rubbing the cannabis buds between your hands. The resulting heat causes the trichomes to release and stick to your hands. Once your hands are covered with the resin, rub them together and then the hash forms a ball. So this is a very simple way to make hash.
Hash can also be made by putting the cannabis buds in a bucket of cold water. This mixture is stirred. The coldness of the water and the stirring causes the trichomes to release. The water is then filtered, allowing the trichomes to be collected. They are then dried and pressed into hash.
Another way hash is made is by the Moroccan method. The cannabis buds are placed on a sieve, which you shake back and forth. The trichomes are released and collected in a container under the sieve. Blocks of hash are then pressed from this. Because the percentage of THC is higher, the effects of hash are a lot more powerful than those of weed. The stone is more relaxing and physical than mental. If you go looking for hash, you can also find it under the names stuff, assie and hasjiesh.
How is weed made?
Weed actually refers specifically to the cannabis buds, although people also mean the whole plant. The buds of the cannabis plant are covered with trichomes. But a bud also contains other material. Therefore, one of the differences between hash and weed is that weed has a distinctly different taste from hash.
If you want to use weed, you will still have to treat the buds. Because they contain a lot of moisture, you cannot just start smoking them straight away. After harvesting, they need to dry for at least 10 to 14 days. In principle, they are then ready to be used, but it is advisable to cure the buds as well. This helps to improve the flavour and quality even more. This takes another four to six weeks or so, but then you have something. Weed has many different names. Some of these are cannabis, pot, weed and marijuana.
What exactly are the differences between hash and weed?
Now that you know how cannabis and hashish are made, it is interesting to find out exactly how they differ. Which of the two is stronger and what are the effects? We'll go into this in more detail below.
Differences in effects
Most people who use hash and weed indicate that hash has a more relaxing effect than weed. It has a more calming effect and the effects are more physical than mental. It also seems that hash has fewer negative side effects than weed. For instance, you will be less likely to experience paranoia or anxiety when using hash.
Weed or hash: differences in strength?
Of course, a difference in strength is also partly determined by the strain used to make hash or weed. But given that hash contains a much higher concentration of THC than weed, hash is generally more potent than weed.
How they are used
There are also similarities between hash and weed. For instance, you can use them in most of the same ways. Both hash and weed can be smoked (with a joint, bong or cannabis pipe) or vaped with a vaporiser. You can also make them both into edibles. If you have a very pure form of hash, in which almost no plant material is left (rosin), you can also dab it. This involves putting hash into a dab bong or pipe and then inhaling the vapour.
Choose what suits you
Hashish and cannabis are both products derived from the hemp plant. There are some obvious differences, such as the method of preparation and the effects. Then again, the method of use is similar. Those looking for a mainly physical stone should go for hash. For anyone who wants to get high but does not want to use cannabis, there is also Mystic Hash based on herbs, such as kratom and salvia. Another variant of hash is CBD hash from Plant of Life, which contains such a low percentage of THC (0.2%) that it won't get you high. However, you can still enjoy the benefits of CBD.
