Magic truffles are not exactly known for their tastiness. So you don't drink truffle tea because it tastes so good, do you . But not to worry! With these recipes, your truffle tea will not only be delicious, but also a little healthier. Three birds with one stone: this is how to make a healthy, tasty and trippy tea.

The basis for a tasty and healthy truffle tea is our standard recipe. This tea is effective, but not a culinary masterpiece. To make a tasty tea, you need a flavouring and a sweetener. If you want your tea to be healthy too, we have some tasty suggestions below.

Truffle tea: the basic recipe

For a truffle tea without any fuss, follow the following simple recipe for truffle tea:

  • Warm water. Use water that is no hotter than 69°C. This is because boiling water destroys the active ingredients. You can boil the water, then let it cool for a while.
  • Crush and cut the truffles into as small pieces as possible, so as to release and absorb as much of the psilocybin as possible.
  • Let steep for 20 minutes.
  • Sweeten with your favourite sweetener, such as agave syrup, honey, sweeteners or sugar.
  • Use any leftover truffle remnants for a second tea.

Truffle tea with a kick of maté

If you want an energetic trip, add a natural pick-me-up to your truffle tea. Yerba Maté is a tea from South America that is relatively high in caffeine. But not only that: it is also packed with healthy substances such as antioxidants and alkaloids. Add a spoonful of maté powder to your standard truffle tea recipe and strain after it has infused for a while. Maté is quite bitter, so mainly add something to make it a little sweeter.

Matcha truffle tea: for the real hipster

Do you identify as a hipster? Then this combination of matcha and truffles is for you. Matcha tea is totally hip these days. You see it on the menu at literally every coffee shop. It is made from the super-healthy green tea, which is grown in a special way. As a result, it contains even more healthy substances like theanine, caffeine and antioxidants. Theanine is actually a very good match with caffeine. This is because it is able to counteract that nervous effect that caffeine has, without making you tired. Also, matcha is quite bitter by itself, so be especially generous with the sweeteners to make this truffle tea a treat. Add (vegetable) milk to make a barista-approved creation.

Truffle ginger tea

Ginger is mega healthy. But did you know it can also come in handy when tripping? After all, a well-known side effect of magic truffles and magic mushrooms is nausea, and ginger is an effective remedy for this.

  • Cut ginger into small pieces or throw it in a blender with water and bring to a boil.
  • Let the mixture of ginger and water boil for a while.
  • Drain in a colander and collect the ginger water.
  • Make the truffle tea separately according to the basic recipe.
  • Add the (slightly cooled) ginger tea to your truffle tea.
  • For extra flavour, you can add fresh mint. Mint can also help with upset stomachs.
  • Make the truffle tea even healthier by adding herbs and spices.

Savoury and sweet truffle recipes

Truffle soup

Don't like sweet? Of course, a soup or broth is also just like tea, but savoury. Add your chopped truffles to a light instant soup like the low-calorie Opkikkertjes. Not necessarily very healthy, as there isn't much in these apart from salt. But an extra dose of salt can be smart, especially on a sweaty summer day, when you are tripping outside and lose track of time.

More recipes for psychedelic tea

Besides from magic truffles, you can also make tea from other psychedelics. Mushrooms, of course; these will have a similar effect to truffles. But you can also make tea from mescaline cacti such as the Peyote and San Pedro. You can also throw kanna into a tea. This powder can have both uplifting and calming effects, depending on the dosage.
