HOW DO YOU MAKE A MAGIC MUSHROOM SPORE SYRINGE?
Growing your own psilocybin mushrooms is not a difficult task, but it is a very painstaking job. Have you managed to successfully grow your own magic mushrooms? Then it is possible to realize a new harvest through the traces of your magic mushrooms. To support the germination process, it is recommended to inject the substrate with a spore syringe. In this article we would like to explain what spores are, what a spore syringe is and how you can make it yourself for a successful mushroom harvest!
What are mushroom spores?
The magic mushroom belongs to the family of fungi. A fungus grows and reproduces using spores. These spores are very small in size and depending on the species, they are located on the underside of the mushroom cap, in the gills, teeth or pores. A healthy mushroom has an enormous population of spores.
Due to the large numbers, the success seems to be the germination of new mushrooms large. However, fungi are extremely sensitive to competition. An infected substrate (the fertile environment in which your magic mushrooms growing) can ruin your entire crop. It is therefore very important that you work hygienically. In addition, optimal external factors, such as a light, but as much airtight as possible environment are of great importance.
Why a spore syringe?
Growing mushrooms is very easy with the help of a grow set. This is a ready-made fertilize substrate. Have you decided not to use a grow kit? Then a spore syringe is actually indispensable! The spore spray method is a popular germination technique when growing magic mushrooms. As mentioned earlier in this blog, it is important that you work super hygienic – also with the spore spraying method.
So be careful to reduce the chance of ‘contaminations’ to keep it low. Below it will be explained in steps how to make such a spore syringe in the right way.
Make your own spore syringe
You probably wouldn't be reading this blog if you weren't interested in making your own spore syringe, so let's go!
Your supplies for your own spore syringe:
- The spore print
- Scalpel
- Tweezers
- A sterile syringe (10-20ml)
- Sterile water
- A shot glass or small bowl
- Pressure cooker
- Gas stove or –burner
- A sturdy resealable bag
In addition, it is also strongly recommended to use gloves and a mask. So put this one on the shopping list right away?
Step 1
We will first sterilize your shot glass or dish. To do this, place everything in the pressure cooker and heat it until you reach 15psi. Is the pressure high enough?
Lower the temperature and cook everything for about +/- 30 minutes. After these 30 minutes, you can also add your reused syringes to sterilize them.
Step 2
After 30 minutes, remove the pressure cooker from the heat source and let the water cool down to room temperature. Please note: this is extremely important. Water that is too hot can kill spores, and this would be a shame. For example, let it cool overnight, so you can be sure that it has cooled down properly. Keep the lid on the pan, so the risk of contamination is smaller.
Step 3
You're ready to go! The spore syringe can now be made. You can now sterilize your tweezers and scalpel. Hold this over a flame until it is very hot.
Step 4
Remove the shot glass or dish with water from the pressure cooker, do this very carefully.
Step 5
Grab your tweezers and get your spore print out. Hold it above the shot glass or bowl.
Step 6
Carefully scrape the spores into the water with your scalpel.
Step 7
Start filling the syringes right away. Place the tip of your first syringe in the water and fill it. Our advice: place the syringe in the shot glass a number of times, this ensures that the spores are well distributed in the water.
Step 8
Yes! Your syringes are filled. Now you need to keep them at room temperature for 2 to 3 days. This helps to fully hydrate the spores, giving you better results.
Step 9
Grab the (airtight) resealable bags. You can store the spore syringes in this for a maximum of 12 months. Just make sure you keep the bag in the fridge for optimal quality!
The most effective: a ready-to-use spore syringe
Do you think it's too much trouble? Then go for the ready-to-use spore syringes. We sell this from the Mondo brand.
A Mondo Spore Syringe contains millions of mushroom spores and is of top quality. With a psilocybe mushroom spore syringe from Mondo, you can inoculate a lot of substrates. It is very important that you know what you are doing. Creating a substrate with the right ratio is not that easy. If you don't understand this, choose a growkit. Mondo spore syringes are often used by mycologists and experienced mushroom growers. We only sell this spore syringe for scientific research and for private use magic mushrooms. Once the Mondo psilocybe mushrooms have been harvested and dried, you can easily store them for up to two years.
Good luck!
