KIEF: THIS IS IT AND THIS IS HOW IT IS MADE

KIEF: THIS IS IT AND THIS IS HOW IT IS MADE

Kief, also called skuff, (star)dust or keef, is a cannabis concentrate that is much stronger than regular weed or hashish. The beauty of kief is that you can make it yourself. And it's very easy. All you need is a grinder. And the buds of cannabis plants, because that's where it comes from. Read on quickly to find out all about making your own kief.

What is kief?

The word kief comes from the Arabic 'kaif', meaning pleasure or intoxication. This meaning covers the load, because kief makes you super stoned!

Kief and skuff are two names for the same critter. To explain exactly what it is, we first need a bit of biology to explain why kief is so strong. You harvest the cannabis plant when the buds are ready. These buds are full of trichomes, tiny drops of resin. These can be seen with the naked eye as crystals. They contain the resin with all the substances that make you so stoned. It's the same stuff that sticks to your fingers like this when you harvest marijuana buds. It's also where that deliciously intense cannabis smell comes from. The unprocessed form of hash is kief. In the production of hash, the kief is compressed and heated so that it becomes a solid block or ball. But that process makes the hash less strong than the original skuff or kief.

How to make your own kief

If you want to make your own kief or skuff, you first have to harvest your own plants - or ask a grower friend of yours. Do you have your plant tops? Then there are two ways to harvest your kief.

Method 1: grinder and patience

As told earlier, you need the buds of the cannabis plant. Grab a grinder and throw your buds in here. Grind them finely. Since pure kief is sticky because of the resin, it will stick to your grinder. This is how you build up layer after layer of skuff. This is not a process you do with the first grinder you find. Ideally, you buy a special grinder for it. And one with a THC filter, so the grinder has several chambers. This is a kind of sieve that conveniently collects the kief. So pay attention to this when you buy a special grinder for collecting kief. Be aware that it may take some time before you have enough kief to turn it into a nice jonko. You will need to collect a good stash and a good number of times on your grinder.

Method 2: sieve box

If collecting kief with a grinder is too much work for you, you can also use the sieve box method. This is a special box designed just for collecting kief. The box consists of several essential elements. You have a bottom where the skuff ends up and a sieve plate with fine holes. At the top of this box, you put your cannabis buds. Then you shake the box gently back and forth. This shaking separates the kief from the rest of the buds. And voila: at the bottom appears your homemade skuff.

How to use kief

You can use your kief in various ways to get super-stoned. Of course, you can put it in a cigarette paper to make a nice jonko. Just sprinkle some of it over the tobacco or tobacco substitute in the paper and smoke it. As with cannabis butter and other cannabis concentrates, you can also incorporate your skuff into edibles and spacecake.

Want to save the skuff for later or take it with you? Then you can carefully compress it into a cube or simply store it in an airtight bag.
