WHAT IS MATCHA TEA AND HOW HEALTHY IS IT?

WHAT IS MATCHA TEA AND HOW HEALTHY IS IT?

It has been a huge hit on the menu of coffee shops for a few years now: matcha tea. Delicious as a matcha latte - a hot drink with a splash of (oat) milk - but also a delicious refreshment as an iced tea. This super-green drink made from green tea - but prepared just a little differently. Besides being delicious, matcha is also super healthy. Below, we tell you all about it and give you some tasty recipes - also to spackle on!

What is matcha tea?

Matcha is a tea that comes from the same plant as regular green tea, the Camilla Sinensis. The difference is not only in the taste, but also in how the tea is made. For instance, it grows up mostly in the shade. This makes it darker in colour and contains more chlorophyll, caffeine and healthy substances than regular green tea. After harvesting, the leaves are ground into a powder, and that's how you get matcha powder.

This is how healthy matcha is

Matcha has all sorts of health benefits. First, it is packed with antioxidants, which reduce the risk of cell damage and chronic diseases. It's good for your heart, and it can support your liver health, partly by making it easier to metabolise medicines and drugs. Good news for those who sometimes pack a party. Matcha tea, by the way, is also a good way to give your brain a helping hand, as it seems to lead to more focus and better memory. Because this tea is relatively high in caffeine, it gives you extra energy to perform. The beauty of matcha is that in addition to that uplifting caffeine, it contains L-theanine. This amino acid is a nice mix with caffeine; as it reduces that pent-up feeling you may experience when you have drunk too much caffeine.

To experience the positive effects on your health, 2 to 3 grams of matcha a day seems to be enough.

Recipes with matcha

Matcha can of course be consumed as hot or cold tea, but you can also bake with it. Have you bought our matcha powder and want to prepare something delicious with it? Here are our favo psychedelic and non-trippy recipes with matcha

Basic matcha tea recipe

Making matcha tea is very simple. Simply add a portion of matcha powder to hot water and you're done. You can add sugar or another sweetener as desired. (Vegetable) milk is also delicious in it. In hot weather, adding ice cubes is a must to make a deliciously refreshing iced tea.

Matcha tea to trip on

Hang out the psychedelic barista and make your matcha tea extra interesting to serve by adding a trip medicine to it. The fact that matcha has such a strong flavour makes it an excellent drink in which to hide your magic mushrooms or truffles, for example. Make mushroom tea with our normal recipe and add matcha powder and possibly some oat milk. Above all, don't forget the sweetener. It is capable of masking both the bitterness of the matcha and the potentially overpowering flavour of the mushrooms or truffles.

What you can also add is Mad Honey. Made only in Turkey and Nepal, this honey has a slightly psychedelic effect as a surprising bonus. Moreover, with this psychedelic sweet honey, you kill two birds with one stone; you get a tasty drink that will make you spackle.

Matcha space cake

Something different from a basic space cake or space brownie: a matcha space cake. The bitter, earthy flavour goes perfectly with that typical cannabis flavour. You can incorporate the matcha powder into the cake batter, or make a creamy topping. Follow the standard recipe for space cake and have fun! Fancy a different baking? Google for tasty recipes with matcha and add homemade cannabis butter.
